My Own Project50 Journey

The Project50 Challenge is a comprehensive lifestyle program designed to help individuals unleash their full potential and achieve success in all areas of their lives. As someone who has always been driven to live a life of purpose and fulfillment, I was intrigued by the concept of the Project50 Challenge and what it could offer. I was inspired by the idea of taking control of my habits and forming daily routines that would allow me to reach my full potential. Creating healthy habits after the pandemic was my initial goal. So, I decided to embark on the challenge to see what it could do for me.

Over the next 50 days, I planned to fully immerse myself in the program and see what kind of transformation I could achieve. And, I am excited to share my journey, the impact that the Project50 Challenge has had on my life so far, and the tools that have helped me. I’m also restarting the challenge to focus on getting in top shape by incorporating strength training vs cardio now that I’ve nailed down my healthy habits. The key to any challenge or lifestyle change is baby steps and steps that make sense to your lifestyle. That will be the key to your success.

Project 50 Rules

The Project50 Challenge consists of 7 key rules designed to help individuals transform their lives and reach their full potential. These rules include waking up at 5-5:30am, drinking water, washing the face and teeth, making coffee, getting dressed in workout clothes, writing in a gratitude journal, reading affirmations, practicing breathing exercises, and participating in a daily workout that includes step incline walking, Pilates reformer, yoga, running, or a combination of these. By following these 7 rules every day for 50 days, individuals can form new habits and routines to help them achieve their goals and live more fulfilling lives.

The Project50 Challenge provides a roadmap for individuals to take control of their habits and start living their best lives. The 7 most important practices included in this challenge are…

1. Wake up before 8 AM

Every day for 50 days, you need to wake up before 8 AM. Having said that, you must get at least 7 hours of sleep and maintain a consistent bed routine. Having a proper sleep cycle is a must. It is proven that waking up early puts an individual in a good mood throughout the day, keeps hunger at bay, and is overall needed for good health. It also gives you more time in the day to complete all your tasks.

2. Do your morning routine: 1 hour With no distraction

Set a proper morning routine you’d like to follow for the next 50 days. Your morning routine can include activities like making your bed, drinking your morning coffee/tea, meditating, spending some time with your loved ones, or spending some time with yourselves to reflect, drinking adequate water, planning your day, and your errands, etc. Anything that keeps you away from your distractions will do.

My Morning Routine

As a participant in the Project50 challenge, I start my mornings with a routine that sets the tone for a productive and fulfilling day. I wake up at 5-5:30 am and make bed, feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the day ahead. This early start time works for me because of many factors, I’m a morning person, I head to bed by 10:30 pm and it simply works for me. Don’t feel pressured to wake up this early; Find what works for you! But the key is to head to bed early the night before if you want to jumpstart on your day.

First, I drink a glass of water to hydrate my body and jumpstart my metabolism. I then proceed to wash my face and brush my teeth, feeling revitalized and energized. Next, I make myself a cup of coffee, which I savor as I plan out my day and set my intentions for the hours ahead. I then get into my workout clothes, feeling eager to get moving and get my heart rate up. I take a moment to write in my gratitude journal, listing everything I am thankful for and setting a positive outlook for the day.

I read an affirmation, reminding myself of my strengths and values, and then I do some deep breathing exercises to calm my mind and center myself. Finally, I am off to my workout, which generally consists of step incline walking on the treadmill, pilates reformer, yoga, running, or a combination. I feel invigorated and motivated after my workout, ready to tackle the day with energy and focus.

3. Exercise for 1 hour

Physical activity is very important. Under this challenge, you need to work out for 1 hour daily; either you can choose to continue performing the same activity every day or you can choose to have any physical activity done. You can choose from swimming, cycling, working out, yoga, playing any sport, etc. Make sure you do not miss a day. Performing any physical activity daily keeps you fit and your mental health in check. The key is to keep your body moving for an hour each day.

I love using ClassPass to switch up my workouts. If you are new to creating a consistent workout routine, ClassPass can be a valuable resource for those participating in the Project50 challenge. Its variety of fitness options, convenient scheduling, access to top studios and instructors, and tracking and accountability features can help participants stay motivated and achieve their fitness goals.

ClassPass offers various fitness classes and activities, from yoga and Pilates to dance, strength training, and more. This variety can help keep you engaged and motivated as they work towards completing the challenge. You can try new classes and activities that interest them and keep your workouts fresh and exciting.

4. Read 10 pages a day

This challenge is to help you form a habit of reading. It can be anything- books, newspapers, articles, etc. When you read, your brain gets exercised and it helps expand your vocabulary. Reading also helps in reducing stress levels and prevents memory decline. Furthermore, it also aids in better sleep, and enhances your vocabulary and knowledge. It also increases your imagination and creativity, giving you a better understanding of how to improve yourself if it's a self-help book or if you're interested in history, it gives you a better understanding in that area. Besides, reading helps to relax and reduces stress. Moreover, it keeps you away from the distractions that are doing us no good.

These are some of my favorite self-development books I highly recommend:

Pick a book that supports the habit you're trying to build. The goal isn't to speed-read your way through 50 days; it's to make a little room for learning every day.

  • 10% Happier — Dan Harris. A skeptical journalist's introduction to meditation and managing the noise in your head.
Why it fits: A useful read for practicing attention, self-awareness, and a more sustainable approach to stress.

  • Atomic Habits — James Clear. A practical guide to building better routines through small, repeatable actions.
Why it fits: Project 50 is about showing up consistently, not relying on motivation alone.

  • The Power of Now — Eckhart Tolle. A reflection on presence and the tendency to live in past regrets or future worries.
Why it fits: Helps make the challenge about being present, rather than obsessing over the finish line.

  • Find Your F*ck Yeah — Alexis Rockley. An irreverent approach to getting clearer on what you actually want, beyond other people's expectations.
Why it fits: A reminder to choose goals that feel meaningful to you.

  • Tribe of Mentors — Tim Ferriss. Lessons, routines, and perspectives from people across different fields.
Why it fits: Offers fresh ideas to experiment with as you develop your own daily practices.

  • Shot Ready — Stephen Curry. Lessons from basketball about preparation, confidence, repetition, and staying ready when an opportunity arrives.
Why it fits: Even if you don't follow basketball, the mindset translates to life, creative work, and business: do the work before anyone sees the result.

  • The Diary of a CEO: The 33 Laws of Business and Life — Steven Bartlett. Principles drawn from conversations and experiences around leadership, decision-making, and personal growth.
Why it fits: Encourages reflection on how your daily habits shape the way you work and lead.

  • The Pivot Year — Brianna Wiest. Short daily reflections on change, identity, and becoming the person you want to be.
Why it fits: Its bite-sized format works especially well alongside a daily reading commitment.

  • The Psychology of Money — Morgan Housel. Stories about the emotions, habits, and decisions behind our relationship with money.
Why it fits: A reminder that patience, behavior, and long-term thinking matter far beyond fitness or productivity.

5. Dedicate 1 hour towards a new skill

To better yourself, you need to work on new skills continuously. It can be anything- painting, cooking, gardening, playing an instrument, dancing, or learning a new language. Learning new skills helps keep your brain active and ward off boredom. When you’re dedicating an hour towards acquiring a new skill, it also helps in building your confidence and self-esteem.

I’ve realized that we neglect the skills we're keen to learn about due to our hectic schedule. Under Project 50 you have to give one hour to the skill you want to pursue. Learning a new skill undoubtedly adds to your knowledge. In addition, it also helps you to relax when you do something you love. It can be singing, painting, coding, designing, or anything you want to master.

For me, it's practicing my Spanish at a business level and practicing tennis. I also signed up for Kris Jenner On the Power of Personal Branding on MasterClass, and with my tennis skills off the court, Serena Williams Teaches Tennis. If you have never tried MasterClass, it’s incredible! There are so many classes offered to up your skills in various areas. There were a few classes I wanted to take, like Dominique Crenn Teaches Modern Vegetarian Cooking, and Bill Nye Teaches Science and Problem-Solving.

MasterClass can be a bit pricy, and if you are looking to up your skills and save a little, Skillshare is great, too! I love that they offer a Free 30 day trial, which I also utilized to learn a few video editing skills.

6. Follow a healthy diet

Eating well shouldn't feel like another full-time job. For the next 50 days, focus on nourishing your body, staying hydrated, and building habits you can actually maintain. Less food guilt, more consistency.

A few simple ways to make it easier:

  • Build balanced meals. Prioritize protein, fiber-rich vegetables, healthy fats, and carbohydrates that keep you fueled. You don't need to cut out entire food groups to eat well.

  • Make hydration a daily habit. Keep water nearby throughout the day. If you're sweating heavily during workouts or spending time in the heat, electrolytes can be useful. Brands worth exploring include LMNT (US), SUPREY, and NoordCode, which has options available in Europe.

  • Keep convenient options on hand. Smoothies, prepared meals, and easy snacks can help on busy days. Chomps sticks and Epic bars are options I've used when traveling or on the go and need a quick snack.

  • Make healthy eating easier, not more complicated. Meal delivery services like Sakara can take some of the planning off your plate, but they're a convenience, not a requirement.

  • Be intentional about alcohol. If you're taking a break during the challenge, try sparkling water, a mocktail, or a zero-proof alternative like Ritual Zero Proof spirits and pre-made mocktails.

The goal: Find a way of eating that supports your energy, recovery, and overall well-being long after the 50 days are over. Consistency matters more than perfection. Remember, that these are lifestyle changes, not a 50-day diet.

7. Track your daily progress in a journal

Keeping a journal helps to track your progress. It is a proven fact that keeping a journal also helps gain confidence. After 50 days, when you look back and go through our progress, you’ll be nothing but proud of yourselves. I've been using my The Five Minute Journal and tracking progress on Instagram Reels.

Since The Five Minute Journal is a journal that will last you six months, I’ve recently restarted a journal using the new The Five Minute Journal Fit Edition, which I’ve been loving with health and wellness as my main focus. Use code LIVEWELL for 10% off your order on Intelligent Change!

Achieve total wellness with MyFitnessPal Premium. Track food, exercise, hydration, and weight in one place. Plus, access guided meal plans and expert-led workouts. Start your free 1-month trial! Why I’m recommending MyFitnessPal Premium because you can fully customize your daily log to meet your macros; if that is something you are trying to do, log your water intake, and it syncs up with my AppleWatch.

Final Thoughts on Project 50

Project 50 can be a useful framework for experimenting with routines, but there is no guarantee that 50 days will permanently change your habits or your life. Habit formation varies from person to person, and consistency matters more than perfection. Start with a manageable version of the rules, adapt exercise and nutrition to your needs, and treat the challenge as an opportunity to learn what actually works for you.

Additionally, if you're concerned about losing steam midway and not having the endurance to see the challenges through to the end, think about finding ways to keep yourself motivated. You might opt for personalized Medals and award yourself after the challenge. This can spur you on to maintain the new habits developed over the 50 days of the Project50 Challenges, and you can keep these medals to remember this significant journey.
